Riding Cup - 2017
Beverley Squash Club Juniors do the East Riding proud
This year’s Ridings Cup was held at Pontefract Squash Club, with over 100 children take part. The competition sees teams of boys and girls from East, West, South and North Yorkshire in various age groups (under 11s, under 13s and under 15s), scoring points for their team. Beverley Squash Club was pleased to provide a total of 5 representatives for the East, Callum Tomlinson (14), Ted Payne (12), Louie Mankel (11), Adam Feetham (10) and Sophie Hebb (11).
Callum lead from the front winning all three hard fought games in the under 15’s. Whilst Ted and Louie also played in the under 15’s category, an age group above, and did more than held their own at this elevated level. Adam played in the under 13’s and managed to edge a close battle 3-2 in one of his matches. Sophie was taking part in her first ever competition and got her first win under her belt. Fantastic achievements for all of the players!
Even though the East put up stiff competition, they were no match for the West, almost taking a clean sweep of the trophies across all age groups.
Beverley Head Squash Coach Ian Taylor was the representative for the East and had this to say, “all of the players at the event really enjoyed the day, there were some great games of Squash as well as a huge amount of fun and socialising amongst the players and parents, which was lovely to see. Special mention to all the Beverley representatives who did their club and County great credit… well done! The competition was a great success and a great day for all involved, hopefully it will be a key feature in the squash calendar in the future”.
Beverley Squash Club runs junior coaching sessions Wednesdays (4.20pm-5.30pm) and Saturdays (9.45am-11.00am) and all are welcome to attend, be it someone totally new to the sport or returning to it.
